The Languages of Southern Nigeria: A Geopolitical Profile is the 5th edition in the series produced by the Nigerian Languages Project (NLP). It covers the seventeen States in the three southern geopolitical zones in Nigeria. It is the first volume that has a preliminary linguistic map.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The JNLP calls for the submission of original papers for consideration and subsequent publication, after review, in the JNLP Vol 2, December 2020 edition.

2nd Conference of the Nigerian Languages Project

The 2nd Conference of the Nigerian Languages Project (CNLP) which was postponed due to the COVID 19 pandemic is still on hold. The conference will provide an opportunity to listen to the reports of the work done so far in the NLP. The conference will, in addition, provide a forum for linkage and collaboration between speakers of indigenous Nigerian languages, groups and cooperate bodies interested in the documentation and development of Nigerian languages. There will also be a platform for sharing and strengthening working groups to cover the six Geopolitical Zones.

The Origin of "Eh Soom Boo Kawaya"


At the pinnacle of success, the background of a phenomenal star is almost forgotten. So it is with “Eh Soom Boo Kawaya”. This Nigerian folksong has become an international folksong performed by kids all over the world. A click on the internet reveals a global coloration of performances of the song by kids from different races. However, as every brand is traceable to its maker, the origin, the meaning and the composers of this internet sensation have not been attributed to any group or tribe in Nigeria. This is an attempt to investigate the origin of “Eh Soom Boo Kawaya”.
