A Blue-print for Parenting

You will recall that it was at the Garden of Eden, that place of extreme grace, that God commanded the first parents – Adam and Eve to be fruitful, fill the earth and govern it. He blessed them and made them masters of all His creation (Genesis 1:28).

The first step towards this fruitfulness is the replication of his kind, and as such, after a man and a woman come together in matrimony, God gives them wonderful gifts – children (Psalm 127:3). He values them very highly indeed, and through them, He shapes the future as He plants them in families. Ideally, every family should be made up of the parents (father and mother), and the children at the nuclear level. As a father who loves to give His children good gifts, He has provided the structure for raising children, and He has adequately empowered all the partakers of His benevolence with regard to parenting.

Parenting children should be a delight, especially as children are precious gifts. In raising them according to God’s plan, roles are assigned to all stakeholders in the family.  God, the parents and the children play different roles.

Let us illustrate with the wonderful analogy made in Isaiah (28:23-24), between parenting and farming. The farmer prepares the ground for sowing, after which he sows the different seeds: fitches, cumin, wheat, barley, etc.  in their different places. He uses different instruments to harvest and thresh them: a staff for beating the fitches, rod for the cumin, etc. How does he know all this? God, who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in working (verse 29),  instructs him (verse 26).

As a parent therefore, you need to embark on spiritual preparation, by seeking the face of the Lord to reveal the blue-print of your children  to you.  Each child is unique with particular features, and the strategies for each one is different. In all that, remember that God does the teaching, and He alone gives the counsel and the wisdom. Your children can be raised as princes unto the Lord indeed, with some effort on your part as a parent. And you can parent them with delight if you do it God’s way.

The Parents’ Delight Forum is a pivotal organ of the Seed Royal Squad, a youth’s intercessory forum, mandated to raise princes unto the Lord. It is a non-denominational body with the burden to provide a glory-filled home, conducive for bringing up such princes in their generation. At PDF, we explore biblical ways of training our children in these extraordinary times. To do this, we pray for strategies that can help to bridge the gap between the older and the younger generations (Malachi 4:6), as well as build a better relationship between the youths and adults. We seek ways of fostering more understanding between parents and children and through a better relationship, lessen the negative influence of peer pressure on our youths. We also equip the youths to face the hostile and competitive adult world and locate them in the purpose and plan of God for their lives. We meet regularly to rub minds on parenting, and we have yearly outreaches to parents.
